PLDs and standard cell ASICs are part of the logic market, a market that constitutes 29 percent of the semiconductor market. The $63.7 billion logic industry is subdivided into various categories including application specific product segments specific to major end-markets including automotive, computers, consumer, industrial, and communications, including both wireless and wired segments. Also included are standard logic components, including general purpose devices, PLDs and standard cell ASICs, the displays components segment.

The PLD and standard cell ASIC market consists of programmable logic devices, including CPLDs and FPGAs, along with the larger standard cell ASIC segment. Standard cell ASIC revenue constitutes 60 percent of worldwide revenue for this product family, but this market is growing much slower than PLDs and FPGAs. Revenue for PLDs, both complex and simple structures, constitute 19 percent of the market and FPGAs constitute 22 percent.

The PLD/Standard Cell ASIC market will reach an estimated $10 billion in global 2009 revenue. The entire PLD/Standard cell ASIC market will expand at an annual rate of 10 percent on average until they reach $15.8 billion by 2014.
